Updates

June 14, 2006

I finally finished the screenplay for Manila Rave.  I’m a bit concerned that it might be too short, coz the whole script is just 70 pages long.  It’s still a work in progress, though, so the actual length of the work isn’t final yet.

I’ve had one of my friends, Aann (one of the best PMs I’ve ever worked with), check out the script and see if it’s feasible.  We’re going to meet up to talk about the script maybe within the next few days.

I’m also currently looking for funding for this project. The most obvious route, of course, is to pitch this to the next installment of Cinemalaya, or even Cinema 1, if ever. But I simply can’t pin all my hopes on these organizations, so I’m looking around. Let’s just say I’m hedging up my chances.

Announcement from the Author:

April 10, 2006

To everyone who has read this work, thank you so much.  I really appreciate the effort, the time, and the patience you have given this work.  I’m also grateful for all the comments, good and bad, that I have received for this work.  Your inputs were most valuable.

I have now taken Manila Rave down.  As much as it gives me great satisfaction to have this work of mine read and appreciated, I do not wish for it to remain merely as a weblog.  I’m not sure if this work deserves to exist in another form (or forms), but I for one would want to make it happen.

Manila Rave is the most personal work I have ever done so far.  What started off as a random thought turned into an exercise to keep my creative juices flowing.  And what was once merely an exercise turned into a work that I am unabashedly proud of.

With that thought, I now come into terms with what I want to do with this work.  They are as follows:

  • I want to publish Manila Rave
  • Then, I want to turn it into a film

I want to see my work published because I simply want to hold Manila Rave in my hands as a book.  As simple as that.  I will look for a publisher.  If no one wants it, I will publish it myself.  Someday.  Really.  I’m not looking to make millions out of this (A BOOK?  In the Phillipines? FORGET IT!!!).  I just want to see this work published in a paperback format.

And I want to shoot Manila Rave as well.  Ever since, I saw this work unravel in my head.  I know every angle, I know every nuance.  I know what Aaron and Zarah look like, and I see, hear, feel, smell, and taste everythng that happens in this work.  And it’s all in my head, and now it wants to get out.  I have a maddening need to see this work in the physical world.  I need to get this work done.

So, with that, I will bid farewell to everyone reading this.  This blog will now be an update center everytime I come closer to realizing one of these two goals.  Realistically, I have a very, very long way to go.  These are not easy dreams, so I’m sure there will be no action in this blog for quite a while.  But the updates will come.  My goals will be realized.  Manila Rave will come back.

Thank you.

B Canapi
